Superpower Feature: Astronomical Manipulations

As most of you know, I’m obsessed with space. It’s something that has always fascinated me, from planets to interstellar phenomena. I find all that stuff super inspiring.

And, for those who read my books, you also know I’m obsessed with magic and superpowers…

So why not have both?

Superpowers based on space events are the basis of the Blue Star series (I mean, it’s right there in the title). We’ve got Finnley (supernova = telekinesis/telepathy), Nate (black hole = umbrakinesis or shadow manipulation), and Kiya (blue star = ???). It was so fun imagining what space events might look like as superpowers… which is why I wanted to keep exploring in the Star trilogy, the spin off / continuation of the Soul trilogy.

Enter Ryder, our brand new space event. Astronomical manipulations is his secret superpower, also known as astroremkinesis (I like my -kinesis words). What does that mean exactly? Well, Ryder has the power to manipulate celestial/astronomical objects.

When we meet Ryder, he’s still trying to control his powers. And they get worse around the full moon.

No, he’s not a werewolf.

His power involves creating lights that look like the aurora borealis, creating meteors out of nothing, and triggering some pretty fiery emotions between him and Kiya. You know, since their ‘powers’ are both celestial related. They end up heading toward a star collapse (hey, there’s a good book title) where ‘runaway nuclear fusion’ happens and Kiya eventually gets her powers.

But we’re here to talk about Ryder and his astronomical manipulations.

While astroremkinesis can appear as many powers, there’s a lot we have to learn about Ryder… and a lot he’s going to start figuring out as the books continue.

Some of his discoveries include learning that the lights he can create are about manipulating the magnetosphere and altering solar winds. Not only that, he can work with cosmic elements and create meteor storms or even create the flaming rocks in his hand. The more he learns about space and celestial objects, the easier his power is to access. Which means there are probably a few more abilities that he hasn’t quite accessed yet… and you’ll just have to wait and see!

The Blue Star series continues with Star Supernova, and you can catch up now with the Soul trilogy and Star Collapsed.

If you could have any cosmic based power, what would you want?
