Writing Tools

I have been knee deep in fantasy worldbuilding for the last few months, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite writing tools to help me get all of my stories written!

When I’m crafting a story, there are a lot of things that go into creating the world and making sure the names, language, and elements are believable. Not only that, keeping all of those ideas organized and on schedule is another beast to tackle!

Below are a few of my favorite websites and worldbuilding tools, plus a few websites that help me get my work done and looking pretty.

Fantasy Name Generator

The ultimate fantasy website for writers. Honestly, I am on this page at least 10 times a day to help me get ideas (I got several character names for the Warrior Series here). I find character names, locations, mythical beast ideas, and more here. This is the source for so many of my book elements. Often, I’ll start clicking through the generators and mix and match to find the perfect combination for what I want.

Superpower Wiki

A huge resource for my Blue Star series. I am here all the time when I’m looking for ways to stretch my characters’ superpowers or have a new power to introduce! If you want a YA, X-Men style story with some romance and badass female characters, the Blue Star series is perfect.

Scrivener

My favorite writing software. I write all of my books in Scrivener. The ability to organize my chapters, worldbuilding, and outline makes this a perfect fit. Plus, I can set project goals and stay on track of my word counts.

Passion Planner

The best planning tool out there. I am a paper planner gal, and I’ve never stuck with a planner as long as I’ve used the Passion Planner. They have some free templates if you aren’t ready to commit, but it’s the best investment I’ve ever made. I track my word counts, keep on top of projects, and plan out my author business with this planner.

Canva

Here’s where the graphics happen. Any artwork that I finish in Procreate gets thrown into Canva for fun graphics and social media posts. This is where the worldbuilding gets a shiny book cover, character template, or social media photo.

When it comes to worldbuilding, I could spend hours and days on these websites just getting ideas. Sometimes I need a kick in the butt to get back to the actual writing part!
